Women’s Centre of York Region

WCYR is a community-based not for profit organization that started in 1977 to support women and their families to break barriers, overcome challenges of trauma and abuse, and build brighter futures. Through group education, workshops, counselling services, peer support, and case management, we support women and their families with employment, mental health, housing and the necessities of life.

OUR PROGRAMS & SERVICES

In a safe and inclusive environment, we welcome each woman and meet her right where she is.

We offer a range of programs and one-on-one support, to help foster meaningful steps and actions.

All programs are provided at no charge. Explore our programs to find which one(s) are right for you.

In 2024, funds raised provided over 5,000 women and families with education, groups and outreach:

Essential Care Bundles

Providing $15,000 worth of shampoo, conditioner, feminine hygiene, blankets and food to families in need.

Additional Counselling

Helping 400+ women overcome trauma and rebuild their lives.

Expanded Group Programming

Skill-building, financial empowerment and life skills programs to help 600+ women and their families achieve goals.

“It’s like a saving haven. We go there, we belong there, and we are not afraid and not ashamed anymore - it's wonderful.”

We’re best known for helping women break through barriers and reach their true potential.

Operating from a feminist, anti-oppressive, anti-racist framework, we believe investing in women makes an impact to their lives, the lives of their families, and the community.
