Are you EXPERIENCING ABUSE?

Recognizing abuse is the first step to getting help. Does your partner:

  • Deny or blame you for the abuse?

  • Make you feel bad about yourself?

  • Have you been threatened if you try to leave?

  • Limit your access to money, the phone, etc?

  • Use insults, name calling and shaming in private and/or public places?

  • Is anyone forcing you to do anything that you do not want to do?

  • Control you?

  • Prevent you from visiting friends and family?

  • Destroy your property?

  • Ever push, kick, slap, punch or choke you?

  • Threaten to harm you and/or the children or a pet?

  • Sexually assault you?

If you answered ‘yes’ to one of the questions below, please seek assistance from WCYR or another women’s agency. Counsellors at Women’s Centre of York Region can assist you in making sense of what is happening in your life and to develop a safety plan for yourself and your children.
