Counselling Services
The Community Care Team includes Social Workers who provide individuals and families in Eastern York Region with supportive, short-term counselling FREE OF CHARGE. The Social Workers can teach helpful strategies to cope with a range of issues: stress, separation, adjustment, grief, mental health issues, family challenges, addiction and substance use issues, challenges related to gender and sexual diversity, and more.
Bereaved Families York Region provides bereavement support services by trained volunteers and staff to individuals and families grieving the death of a loved one.
Salvation Army provides support to children and families in the form of shelter, clothing, and food. As well, they provide rehabilitation counselling to individuals battling addiction.
At Belinda’s Place, The Salvation Army provides basic needs, temporary housing, client-focused wraparound supports and follow up services to assist women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We help women find and keep housing and successfully reintegrate into the community.
The mental health day treatment program is a social rehabilitation service, designed to assist individuals who are experiencing mental illness, emotional distress, or a difficult life situation.

Mackenzie Health offers many outpatient programs and services for adults and families experiencing mental health challenges as well as an adult inpatient mental health unit.
Markham Stouffville Hospital has launched new services to support women’s health by providing therapies to improve quality of life. Using different methods, the clinic aims to improve women’s sense of personal well-being, strengthen focus and mental flexibility, manage difficult emotions, promote self-awareness and distinguish healthy from unhealthy coping.
These services are available to patients of MSH across all departments including childbirth, cancer care (oncology), surgery and mental health. Sessions include:
Art therapy group
Mindfulness-based stress reduction group
Interpersonal psychotherapy group
Postpartum depression

Kids Help Phone’s non-judgmental, inclusive services are available to young people across Canada. This means we’re here for all kids, teens and young adults from coast to coast to coast.
If you contact Kids Help Phone’s youth support services as an adult, we’ll help you get the support you need. We may refer you to another service Wellness Together Canada, Crisis Text Line Canada (text 741741), etc.
Yellow Brick House provides emergency shelter, crisis counselling, as well as, parenting support including program for moms of infants and toddlers.

Located in Richmond Hill, the centre provides support, counsel and guides individuals and families from diverse backgrounds and faiths. Programs are focused on Immigrants and Refugees, including settlement services, Senior Programs, Wellness programs and an Integration Network Program. Cedar Centre provides a unique and holistic approach to therapy, education and advocacy for those who have experienced trauma. Working from an anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks, serving all ages. We are committed to improving their lives through a trauma-specific therapy plan that is designed to meet each person’s unique needs, strengths and challenges.
Services include anything from counselling, to meal support to help with passing a citizenship test, throughout Toronto and Markham.

Free care for victims/survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault including emergency care following abuse or an assault, examination, testing, follow-up care, counselling and many other services as needed. Services are provided by health care professionals who are specially trained in forensics and trauma related to abuse and assault. The centre also provides counselling and support to family members and caregivers.

We are a resource and referral center and help connect people to registered agencies and then offer further assistance via their case workers. Delivery Hope program provides survivors assistance through product distribution. This includes clothing (women, children and sometimes men), housewares, toiletries, bedding and much more.
Resources include Crisis Counselling, Safety Planning, and case management for Women being exploited, and Human Trafficking.
York Region’s sexual health services are confidential and non-judgmental. Sexual health clinics are available at convenient locations throughout the Region. Other services include a sexual health hotline, counselling services and resources for schools.

Located in Aurora, York Hills provides quick access to phone counselling. The Here to Help Phone Line is a free service available to children, youth (0-18) and their parents, caregiver or adult supporters.
The DSO (Developmental Services Office) has the responsibility for helping adults with developmental disabilities access services and supports in their communities. For those who live in the Central East Region, which includes the Regional Municipality of York, contact the DSO Central East Region, which is run by York Support Services Network.
Locations are in Newmarket, Richmond Hill and Georgina includes Transgender, Men Supports, parenting and Youth & Diversity programs.
