Memo: Executive Director Appointment

On behalf of the Women’s Centre of York Region (WCYR), we are pleased to announce the appointment of Nivedita Balachandran (Niv Bala) as Executive Director, effective May 22, 2024.

Liora Sobel is no longer with the Women's Centre of York Region, and we sincerely thank her for her contributions to the organization.

Niv brings a wealth of experience in the non-profit and social services sector, including various leadership roles with Community Health Centres, mental health, newcomer, and social service organizations. She has a passion for community development, community engagement, equity, strategic initiatives, and governance. Niv is also a volunteer on the board of directors for a Family Health Team, and chairs the governance committee. She holds a Bachelor’s (B.Sc) degree in behavioural neuroscience and a Masters (MPH) degree in public health.

In her role as Executive Director, Niv will lead the Women’s Centre through our strategic plan, and ensure our valuable programs and services are available to community members.
