Annually, WCYR provides tangible supports to help women experiencing violence and poverty, the items they need to survive the winter months, as well as a bit extra to celebrate the holidays with their children. This year, as we continue on the road to recovery from COVID-19, it will be extremely difficult for women experiencing violence and facing barriers such as unemployment and poverty.

#HelpKeepHerSafe 2021 has begun!

Women's Centre of York Region started the #HelpKeepHerSafe Campaign at the onset of COVID-19 when intimate partner violence (IPV) skyrocketed. The campaign allowed us to pivot online and continue to provide free services despite the loss of funding. The ongoing purpose of the campaign is to meet the needs of women in the community experiencing violence or living in poverty as the needs emerge.

WCYR Helped 921 Women In 2019

2019 Impact: WCYR helped 921 Women in 2019: 360 Women took part in the Making Changes Program. The Financial Empowerment Program served 100 women and provided $6000 in grocery assistance. The Enterprising Careers program served 138 women, with one-on-one coaching for 89. Over 1500 hours of One-on-one Counselling helped 147 women.
